Our Unique Rug Cleaning Process
Our state of the art, in-plant rug cleaning facility is highly recommended for the cleaning of Oriental and loose woven rugs. They should not be cleaned on location like your wall to wall carpeting. Heirloom cares for the finest to the most basic rugs from around the world. We will pick-up and bring your rugs back to our special cleaning facility where they will go through our thorough cleaning process for maximum soil and spot removal. Having your rugs cleaned in our facility allows us to give them several treatments, if needed, with both sides cleaned, controlled drying and the use of various specialty tools that are not available on location. The 5-Step Process
Initial Inspection & Check In
When your rug arrives at our facility, it is carefully inspected for spots and stains, soiling conditions, wear patterns, repair needs and other areas of concern such as pet odors, etc. We then measure your rug and determine a cost for service.
Dry Soil Removal
The next step in your rug’s spa treatment is a vigorous “massage” to remove dry soils. The dusting process is the most important step in the process of rug cleaning. We use an Automatic Rug Dusting System which allows us to control the speed and the vibration of each individual rug. And, we have the ability to reverse the rug and start the process again for rugs with large amounts of dry soil within the fibers.
Dry soil removal is critically important to restoring the appearance and maintaining the life of your rug. A respected study by vacuum cleaner manufacturer The Eureka Company determined that a 9 x 12 rug can hold up to 87 pounds of dry soil before looking dirty! And those deeply embedded dry soils are abrasive and saw away at rug fibers like sandpaper every time you walk across your rug!
At Heirloom, we remove the dry soil from deep in the foundation of your rug with a proprietary Automatic Rug Duster that shakes loose all the dry particulate soil that has accumulated in the rug—even crusty soils that have been embedded for years! There’s simply no comparison to the conventional rug beating done by other “rug cleaning companies”. Pounds of dry soils are safely removed from the back of the rug without any risk of damage to the rug, fibers or fringe!
Area Rug Washing
The spa treatment continues as your rug is placed into our unique wash tub for a swim. The wash tub uses a special, velocity appropriate star paddle to provide gentle agitation that mimics age old hand washing techniques. As your rug swims in the churning water, soils are removed and the appearance of your rug is renewed without the use of brushes, power spraying, scrubbing or other mechanical agitation that can damage rug fibers.
Special cleaning agents are added to aid in the cleaning process and to insure that colors are restored to their very best appearance and that dye stability or dye transfer is never a problem. This system is so safe that we can clean even priceless Heirloom’s and sensitive foundation antiques with complete confidence!
Water Removal
Once your rug is clean, we utilize a rug wringing centrifuge that is designed to quickly remove water from your rug in order to speed up the drying process. This process is much like the spin cycle on your washing machine! Our special centrifuge allows us to dramatically accelerate the drying process. No longer do you have to wait weeks to have a clean rug back in place in your home!
Final Drying & Inspection
When your rug comes out of the centrifuge it is hung on a special rack to complete the drying phase. The new drying chamber is a sealed off area that will allow your rugs to dry even faster. Combined with the added heat and dehumidifiers inside the unit, we can offer some of the fastest, safest drying times in the industry. Once completely dry, your rug will undergo a final detailed inspection prior to being rolled and wrapped for final delivery.
