Types of Knots

Knot density (for strength) and fineness (for clear design definition) are very important indicators for quality. To test knot density simply push your fingers down the base of the pile. If the knots feel tightly packed, the rug will be very durable. To test the fineness, compare the backs of different carpets. Small knots allow for well defined curves and fine lines in the pattern.
